Kobe Bryant- 2001 McDonalds Commercial
In this commercial, McDonalds introduces the Big n' Tasty. The thesis/argument that McDonalds is trying to portray is that the Big n' Tasty is the next big thing and that even Kobe Bryant wants to eat it. By doing this they are hoping to promote the sales of their new product and get the word out about it so that people will want to try it.
The audience that the commercial is directed towards is mostly basketball fans. Because the commercial has Kobe Bryant, a famous NBA basketball player, it appeals to mostly the fans of that team and of him. The assumptions that are made by the producers of this commercial is that people will see Kobe Bryant eating the Big n'Tasty and they will want to do the same. The appeals they make to convince the audience to buy a Big n' Tasty was to show that Kobe Bryant will skip a basketball game to eat one and they show a picture of the burger making it look appealing to the audience so that when they are done watching the commercial the first thing they would want to do is buy a Big n' Tasty. I was convinced after I finished watching the commercial because of how appealing they made the burger but I might of been more convinced if they had said what was on the burger to possibly make it seem even better than it looked.
McDonalds not only used these key elements of celebrities and basketball games to appeal to the audience, they used humor as well to get the audience interested and laughing. During the commercial they show him missing the game in order to eat a Big n' Tasty which makes people laugh. They also use a dramatic way of introducing the burger to the audience so it will seem like a big deal and will attract peoples attention when it comes on TV. This advertisement is promoting McDonalds new Big n' Tasty burger but it is also just advertising McDonalds in general and gets people thinking about the other types of food they have, potentially leading to more customers.
